Oppede, France
This open-concept four bedroom, three bathroom renovated farmhouse in Oppede France has all of the charm of Provencal design, but with modern appeal and amenities. Anchoring the great room is the original fireplace which lends a sense of history to the space while a vaulted ceiling and glass panelled French doors to the East and West bring light and calmness.
Due to agricultural land reserve regulations in France, the new home had to fit on the pre-existing footprint, which provided a unique challenge to the project. Additionally, the building permit came with an unexpected caveat: the inspector was never allowed to enter the house. The key to working through these, and other, French idiosyncrasies in the building process was to develop a strong working relationship with a local contractor from the beginning.
From the purchase of the property all the way through to completion of construction there were few surprises. The project went ahead on schedule and budget.
Ongoing property maintenance and management has been undertaken by a local company.
